Wallet Setup

To participate in LLMTrader, you need a cryptocurrency wallet. For mainnet trading (real money), connect to Ethereum mainnet with real ETH or USDC. For risk-free practice, connect to the Sepolia testnet with free testnet tokens.

This page covers everything: choosing a wallet, setting it up for mainnet or testnet, funding your wallet, and keeping it secure.

If you already have a wallet ready, you can skip ahead to the Connecting to LLMTrader section.

Supported Wallets

LLMTrader supports a wide range of wallets. You can use whichever one you're most comfortable with.

Hardware wallets offer the highest level of security. We strongly recommend using a hardware wallet for mainnet trading, where real funds are at stake.

WalletConnect

Any wallet that supports the WalletConnect protocol can connect to LLMTrader. This includes dozens of wallets beyond the ones listed above. If your preferred wallet supports WalletConnect, it should work.

If you don't have a wallet yet, MetaMask is the easiest starting point. Here's how to set it up:

1. Install MetaMask

  • Visit the official MetaMask website and download the browser extension for your browser.
  • Only download MetaMask from the official source. There are phishing sites that impersonate MetaMask. Double-check the URL before installing.

2. Create Your Wallet

  • Open the MetaMask extension after installation.
  • Select "Create a new wallet."
  • Set a strong password. This password encrypts your wallet on your local device.
  • MetaMask will show you a Secret Recovery Phrase (also called a seed phrase), a sequence of 12 or 24 words.

CRITICAL: Write down your Secret Recovery Phrase on paper and store it somewhere safe offline. Never share it with anyone. Never store it in a screenshot, email, or cloud document. Anyone who has this phrase can access your wallet and take your funds. LLMTrader will NEVER ask for your seed phrase.

3. Verify Your Recovery Phrase

  • MetaMask will ask you to confirm your recovery phrase by selecting the words in the correct order.
  • Complete this step carefully. If you lose your recovery phrase, there is no way to recover your wallet.

4. Select Your Network

LLMTrader supports two networks. Choose based on your intent:

Mainnet (Live Trading with Real Money)

  • MetaMask defaults to Ethereum Mainnet. If it's already selected in the network dropdown, you're ready.
  • Make sure your wallet has real ETH or USDC to trade with. You can purchase ETH through an exchange (Coinbase, Binance, etc.) and transfer it to your MetaMask wallet address.

Warning: Mainnet trading uses real money. You can and will experience real financial gains and losses. Only trade with funds you can afford to lose.

Testnet Setup (Optional -- For Practice)

If you want to practice risk-free before trading with real money, you can use the Sepolia testnet:

  • Open MetaMask and click the network dropdown at the top (it usually says "Ethereum Mainnet").
  • Select "Show/hide test networks" in settings, then toggle test networks on.
  • Select "Sepolia test network" from the network list.

If Sepolia doesn't appear automatically:

  • Go to Settings > Networks > Add Network.
  • Search for "Sepolia" in the network list and add it.
  • MetaMask should auto-populate the network details. Confirm and save.

5. Verify Your Network Selection

  • For mainnet: Confirm that "Ethereum Mainnet" is selected in the MetaMask dropdown. Your balance will show your real ETH holdings.
  • For testnet: Confirm that "Sepolia test network" is selected. Your balance will show Sepolia testnet ETH (which has no real value).
  • Your wallet address remains the same across networks.

Getting Testnet Tokens (Optional -- For Practice)

If you're using the Sepolia testnet for practice, you need Sepolia testnet ETH. These tokens are free and have no monetary value; they exist solely for testing and practice purposes. If you're trading on mainnet, skip this section.

How to Get Sepolia ETH

  1. Find a Sepolia faucet. Several are available online. Search for "Sepolia ETH faucet" to find currently active options. Faucets are free services that distribute small amounts of testnet ETH.

  2. Enter your wallet address. Copy your wallet address from MetaMask (click on the address at the top of the extension to copy it) and paste it into the faucet.

  3. Request tokens. Most faucets will send you a small amount of Sepolia ETH within a few minutes. Some faucets may require you to complete a simple verification step.

  4. Check your balance. Open MetaMask, make sure you're on the Sepolia network, and confirm that your balance has updated.

Tips for Getting Testnet Tokens

  • Some faucets have rate limits. If one faucet is slow or empty, try a different one.
  • You don't need much. A small amount of Sepolia ETH is sufficient to start experimenting on LLMTrader.
  • Faucets change over time. If a specific faucet isn't working, search for alternatives. The Ethereum community maintains multiple faucets.
  • USDC on testnet. If you prefer to use testnet USDC, check the LLMTrader interface for guidance on obtaining testnet stablecoins, or use a testnet bridge if available.

Connecting to LLMTrader

Once your wallet is set up and funded (with real tokens on mainnet or testnet tokens on Sepolia), connecting to LLMTrader takes about 30 seconds.

Step-by-Step

  1. Navigate to LLMTrader in your browser.

  2. Click "Connect Wallet" in the top-right corner of the interface.

  3. Select your wallet type from the connection modal:

    • MetaMask
    • Coinbase Wallet
    • WalletConnect (for other compatible wallets)
  4. Approve the connection in your wallet. A popup will appear asking you to confirm that you want to connect to LLMTrader. Review the details and approve.

  5. Verify the connection. Once connected, the LLMTrader interface will display your wallet address (abbreviated) in the top-right corner. You should also see your token balance reflected in the platform.

Network Check

LLMTrader supports both Ethereum mainnet and the Sepolia testnet. If your wallet is connected to an unsupported network, LLMTrader will prompt you to switch. Follow the on-screen instructions to change networks, or switch manually in your wallet. Make sure you're on the network you intend to use: mainnet for live trading with real funds, or Sepolia for risk-free practice.

Disconnecting

You can disconnect your wallet at any time:

  • Click on your wallet address in the LLMTrader interface.
  • Select "Disconnect" from the dropdown.
  • Your wallet is immediately disconnected. No funds are affected.

Using a Hardware Wallet

Hardware wallets (like Ledger or Trezor) add a physical layer of security by storing your private keys on a dedicated device. To use one with LLMTrader:

  1. Connect your hardware wallet to MetaMask (or another supported interface) following the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Select your network (Ethereum mainnet for live trading, or Sepolia testnet for practice) as described above.
  3. Connect to LLMTrader using MetaMask with the hardware wallet as the active account.

Every transaction will require physical confirmation on your hardware device. This is an extra step, but it provides significant security benefits.

Security Best Practices

Wallet security is your responsibility. LLMTrader is non-custodial, which means we never have access to your private keys or funds. However, it also means that if your wallet is compromised, we cannot help you recover it.

Follow these practices to keep your wallet safe:

The Golden Rules

  1. Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase (seed phrase) with anyone. No legitimate service, support team, or team member will ever ask for it. If someone asks for your seed phrase, it's a scam. Full stop.

  2. Never enter your seed phrase on a website. Your seed phrase should only ever be entered into your wallet application itself (MetaMask, Ledger, etc.) during recovery.

  3. Verify every transaction before signing. When your wallet asks you to confirm a transaction, read the details carefully. Make sure the recipient address, amount, and network are correct.

  4. Use a unique, strong password for your wallet application.

  5. Keep your wallet software updated. Updates often include security patches.

Additional Recommendations

  • Use a hardware wallet for mainnet trading, especially for significant holdings. Hardware wallets provide the strongest protection for real funds.
  • Consider using a separate wallet for testnet. If you're experimenting on Sepolia, you may want a dedicated wallet for testnet activity rather than using your primary mainnet wallet.
  • Be cautious with browser extensions. Only install wallet extensions from official sources. Malicious extensions can compromise your wallet.
  • Beware of phishing. Always verify you're on the correct LLMTrader URL. Bookmark it to avoid mistyped addresses.
  • Lock your wallet when you're not actively using it. MetaMask and other wallets have an auto-lock feature; enable it.

What LLMTrader Will Never Do

To help you identify scams and phishing attempts, here's what LLMTrader will never do:

  • Ask for your seed phrase or private keys
  • Ask you to send funds to a specific wallet address via direct message
  • Contact you unsolicited to request wallet information
  • Ask you to install unofficial software or browser extensions

If you encounter any communication claiming to be from LLMTrader that violates these rules, it is not legitimate.

Troubleshooting

"Wrong Network" Error

  • Open your wallet and switch to the network you intend to use: Ethereum Mainnet for live trading or Sepolia test network for practice.
  • If Sepolia isn't listed, add it manually through your wallet's network settings.
  • LLMTrader supports both networks. Make sure you're on one of the two.

Wallet Not Detected

  • Make sure your wallet extension is installed and enabled in your browser.
  • Try refreshing the LLMTrader page.
  • If using a mobile wallet, make sure you're accessing LLMTrader through the wallet's built-in browser.

Connection Rejected

  • If you accidentally rejected the connection prompt, click "Connect Wallet" again and approve the request in your wallet.

Zero Balance After Funding

  • On mainnet: Confirm your ETH or USDC transfer has been confirmed on the Ethereum network. Check the transaction on a block explorer (e.g., Etherscan) using your wallet address.
  • On testnet: Confirm you're viewing the Sepolia network in your wallet (not Ethereum Mainnet). Testnet transactions can sometimes take a few minutes to confirm. Wait and refresh. Try a different faucet if the first one didn't deliver tokens.

Risk Warning: LLMTrader supports live mainnet trading with real money. You can lose some or all of your funds when trading on mainnet. The Sepolia testnet is available for risk-free practice. Regardless of which network you use, treat your wallet security seriously from day one. Never share your private keys or seed phrase with anyone, under any circumstances. Never trade with funds you cannot afford to lose.
